Are You a Prime Candidate for Placenta Encapsulation?

When someone tells you they’ve encapsulated and consumed their placenta after birth, what is your knee-jerk reaction? If you’re anything like me, you probably got a queasy feeling in your stomach and thought “What the heck?” But, as with all things, the more you research for yourself and look at the possible benefits, the “ick” factor surrounding placenta encapsulation is replaced with an “a-ha” moment of clarity. For many women, placenta encapsulation is the right choice.

So, how do you know if you are a prime candidate? Read on to find out if you could benefit from this natural option.

1. You have a history of depression. If you have battled depressive states in the past, whether postpartum from a previous pregnancy or otherwise, you could be at risk again.
2. Low milk supply. Placenta encapsulation has been done throughout history and there is research-based evidence that shows milk production increases with the help of placenta.
3. Anemia Concerns. The iron content is high in the placenta. A deficiency of iron can cause postpartum depression. If you are new mom facing an uphill battle with low anemia that could cause depression, placenta encapsulation just makes sense.

Is placenta encapsulation right for you?

Joining the world of motherhood can be a hard transition for some moms. Placenta encapsulation can make that transition easier. If you start planning for your postpartum experience now, taking into account your risk factors for postpartum depression, low milk supply and anemia, you can take comfort in knowing that you are prepared to deal with these situations should they arise. Consuming your placenta could make a huge difference for your emotional wellbeing following the birth of your child. In the midst of learning to breastfeed, getting to know your child and recognizing all of their needs, it would be easy for a new mom to feel insecure. These things are stressful and it is easy to doubt yourself.

If you are worried about any of the issues listed above, consider encapsulation. Set yourself up for a fabulous postpartum experience!
