If you have never used a mortar and pestle, this video will show you how to use the one included in your kit to grind the dehydrated placenta. Notice about half way through the video the demonstrator pounds too forcefully, bouncing some pieces out of the mortar. Avoid a mess by making controlled movements.
Traditional Chinese Medicine dictates that the placenta should not be masticated, which is why many encapsulationists do not recommend using a motorized grinder. However, you are welcome to use a coffee grinder or food processor if you'd prefer a faster approach. Just be aware that grinding the placenta in such a device could break it! This video gives an excellent demonstration on how to make your own natural food dyes at home. If you choose to use your own homemade dyes for Placenta Prints, it is highly recommended that you use deep, concentrated colors to avoid a "watery" appearance.
